Life Insurance Settlement Association, 19 January 2010

Orlando, FL

The Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA) has announced that the European Life Settlement Association (ELSA) has been named as an Honorary Member of the association, joining fellow European association BVZL as the second entity to receive the exclusive distinction. Speaking to the appointment, LISA Executive Director Doug Head explained, “this move further strengthens our relationship with ELSA. As the settlement market continues to grow and more capital flows from Europe, this relationship will be invaluable to both American and European interests.”

The appointment comes as LISA and ELSA prepare to open an unprecedented industry event in late February: the 2010 Life Settlement Trade Mission. The European event brings together American brokers, providers and industry service entities with European investors with multinational interests. The Trade Mission kicks off in London on February 23rd – 24th, travels to Luxembourg and concludes in Zurich on February 26th. “The Trade Mission will set a new standard for accuracy of information and a realistic presentation of the challenges and opportunities in the life settlement marketplace,” said Mr. Head.

In the first weeks of 2010, positive projections for the life settlement industry were heard in a variety of quarters. Among the sentiments expressed by some was a clear expectation that new sources of capital would open in Europe and beyond. “We share the optimism that life settlement investment will be buoyed by a renewed influx of reliable capital,” explained Bryan Freeman, Committee Co-chair for the Trade Summit. “ELSA joins LISA membership at a critical juncture in our industry. Our European partners are already breathing new life into the secondary market and pursuing a common best practices model is essential to an efficient industry.”

The 2010 Life Settlement Trade Mission precedes another important event for the European life settlement and investment community. On March 2nd - 3rd in Berlin, Germany, BVZL will convene their 2010 International Summit: Secondary Markets for Life Insurance. The event will feature a deep faculty of speakers and discussion panels focused on timely issues surrounding the development of German, U.K. and U. S. markets.
